Our Resilient Community in Action

Kate Diorio - Director of Pupil Services, Red Lion Area School District

When I was in 9th grade, I wrote an essay about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I feel so fortunate to have had the clarity to know my life's purpose as life was just getting started. I have realized my ambition and surpassed my goals by digging deep to embrace the grit the propels me forward. I have evolved from a teacher to an administrator and have enjoyed every aspect of the journey.
Currently as the Director of Pupil Services, I strive to remove barriers that inhibit learning for the most vulnerable students. Some of the titles I hold include:
* McKinney- Vento Liaison
* English Learner Coordinator
* ESSA/Foster Student Liaison
* AEDY Coordinate
* 504 Coordinator
* Mental Health First Aid Responder
* Attendance Officer
I am passionate about creating opportunities for all learners to experience success so that they may possess self-efficacy and lead purposeful lives.

Robin Shearer - Founder, Friends and Neighbors

"Robin Shearer, a homelessness-outreach worker in York city, has gotten used to reaching for a mask before heading to work in the morning.

Having a compromised immune system, it's better this way, she thought. She doesn't want to be exposed to illness, and she doesn't want to expose her clients to illness.

On most days, you can find her serving warm beverages at The Coffee Spot inside the Salvation Army of York. It's not so much seen as a provider of homeless services, but as neighbors helping neighbors."

An excerpt from a March 12, 2020 news article sums up the "walk the walk" of compassion and urgency Robin approaches her call to service. Whether she is helping to build a home or sitting with a family who may have encountered a violent situation, her authenticity and warmth shine through.
